The city of Taloqan in north-eastern Afghanistan is struggling to recover from the destruction of a quarter of a century of war. The women of Talogan also have to deal with the fact that Afghanistan has the worst rate of maternal mortality in the world. Afghan women must get their husband's permission to visit a doctor - a permission that is often denied.
