Globally there are 3.8 million newborn deaths in the first month of life. The Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 4 for child survival is increasingly determined by how well countries can reduce newborn deaths as now over 40% of under-five deaths are newborn deaths. So how can these numbers be reduced? We go to Malawi and Nepal, who share the same statistics on new born survival, to find out what is being done.
