Kala Azar is estimated to infect hundreds of thousands of people each year. Many of the victims die in their homes, unable to afford the drugs needed to treat the disease. This summer the Indian Government licensed a new drug, whose development work was rescued from the reject bin of a major drug company, which promises to offer hope to the very poorest.
